Savernake Forest

Believed to be over 1000 years old and full of ancient oak, beech and chestnut trees, Savernake Forest, between Marlborough and Hungerford in the North Wessex Downs AONB, is one of the oldest woodlands in England. One particularly impressive sight is Capability Brown’s ‘Grand Avenue’ of 200 year old beech trees. At just over four miles long it stands in the Guinness Book of Records as the longest avenue in Britain. An oasis of tranquility and beauty at any time of year, the enchanting Savernake Forest is always worth a visit.
