Over Delville Wood

The battle of Delville Wood took place from the 14th July 1916 to the 15th September 1916 and was one of a series of engagements which formed the Battle of The Somme. Delville Wood is located seven miles north east of the town of Albert and immediately adjacent to the village of Longueval where the German 2nd defensive line ran through the middle of the village.
During the second week of July 1916, the British and Commonwealth troops advanced on both flanks of the German Army at Delville Wood and Longueval. The Germans worked hard to retain the ground, and for the rest of July and August, both sides fought for control of the wood and village.
